PR Director - Maternity Cover

Overview

This person will take a hands-on approach to the role, working as an integral part of the team. Day-to-day work will include formulation of strategy, attending meetings, team management and tracking of budgets/billing but it will also involve press release, case study and feature writing, liaising with journalists, searching for proactive opportunities on behalf of clients such as round tables, speaker platforms and award sponsorship, conducting research and media monitoring.

• Minimum of eight years’ PR agency experience across a broad range of clients

• A natural communicator and leader with the ability to manage a team

• A strategic thinker with ultimate responsibility for PR client accounts

• Innovative and creative

• Non-political

• Sense of humour essential!   

• Flexible: willing to work extended hours and stay away from home on occasion, attend evening or early morning events

Qualifications/Training  

• Educated to degree level, ideally with a formal qualification in PR or journalism

Previous experience 

• PR experience ideally gained in a PR agency rather than in-house   

• Good B2B experience

• Sound understanding of current affairs

 Specific Job Skills required:

• An excellent communicator, able to communicate well with media, clients and colleagues  

• Responsible for PR team billing targets, ability to understand management accounts

• Good organisational skills – able to demonstrate experience of strategic planning on a short term and long term basis, reporting effectively and evaluating activity 

• People management – a motivator who believes in working as a team and in sharing successes

• Competent planner and multi-tasker, able to prioritise work effectively

• Media knowledge – able to demonstrate good working relationships with a broad range of media

• Excellent selling skills – able to handle new business meetings single handed when required

• Good copy writing skills and significant experience of proposal writing

• Crisis communications – experience of crisis communications management advantageous

Computer Skills  

• Microsoft Word essential

• Experience with PR tools desirable e.g. Mediadisk, Gorkana, Meltwater, Features Exec

• PowerPoint preferable

• Excel preferable
